PS 188 Gifted & Talented and Literacy Program

Navigate and PS 188, the Michael E. Berdy School, are partnering to start a dual Gifted & Talented (G&T) and Literacy Program.

The G&T Program will work with high-achieving third and fourth graders to prepare them for G&T middle school admissions. Each week, Navigators will attend 3 hours of classes and learn critical math and ELA skills that will help them excel in the middle school application process as well as improve their performance in the classroom and on state tests. These achievements will open the door for them to one day join the Navigate program as middle schoolers in preparation for the SHSAT.

Additionally, the Literacy Program will support third- and fourth-grade students with literacy skills, with a focus on strengthening reading comprehension so that Navigators in this program will not just become proficient, they will excel in reading and literacy.

KAPPA VI Algebra Regents Program

In 2024, Navigate will collaborate with KAPPA VI in Queens, NY, to work with their eighth graders. After seeing the positive outcomes achieved by Navigate’s students who completed the SHSAT program, KAPPA VI invited Navigate to come to their school to work directly with their students to prepare them for the Algebra Regents Exam. Performing well on this exam gives students the option to take advanced math classes once they begin high school, putting them on a path to stand out among other college applicants their senior year.
